Fire department requirements for industries

There is a lot of bureaucracy behind the operation of an industry. After all, to ensure a safe environment, there are several rules that need to be followed. However, unfortunately, we still see cases of accidents or fires caused by carelessness by not following the demands of firefighters for industries. First of all, to avoid complications, it is necessary to invest in quality electrical materials, such as passage boxes that do not spread flames.

However, even choosing the best components for your industrial installation, we should not neglect the safety rules. Therefore, to help you avoid these problems, we have gathered this content for you.

Fire Law for industrial installations

In 2017, the federal government published a new text for the Fire Law (Law No. 13.425/17) that stipulates rules that states and municipalities must follow in order to prevent and combat fires and disasters in establishments. The following locations must adhere to these settings:

  • Trade and service buildings;
  • Industries
  • Any space that receives public concentration, in high, medium or low level.

Stairs

The law defines that ladders must normally have a minimum width and landing width greater than 1,10m. In addition, they cannot be round or fan shaped, and need to be made of non-slip and non-combustible floor.

Fire extinguishers

When the building has moderate risk, such as industrial, it is mandatory to have a fire extinguisher for each area of up to 250 m². In addition, these objects must be installed on a specific support and at a maximum of 1, 60m from the ground and following the ensuing classes:

  • Class A (water extinguisher);
  • Class B (dry chemical powder extinguisher);
  • Class C (DCP or CO2 extinguisher).

Emergency lighting

The emergency lighting system is essential to expedite the evacuation of an area in accidents that cause electrical power to fall. This type of lighting must follow the requirements of regulatory norms (NR) 10,898, illuminating exits, emergency stairs, escape routes and possible obstacles.

Emergency exits

The emergency exit needs to be strategically positioned in order to facilitate the abandonment of the building in an agile and safe way. Therefore, they must have a minimum width of 1.10 m and they must be permanently free and signalized. In addition to having a coating on material that prevents the spread of flames.

Important information: Emergency exits must be dimensioned according to the Brazilian norm (NBR) 9077.

Rooms and environments with capacity for more than 50 people need to open in the escape direction. On the other hand, the environments for more than 200 people, in addition to opening in the escape direction, they must have an anti-panic bar constantly unobstructed, illuminated and duly signalized.

Emergency signaling

Emergency signings are placed to ensure that safety equipment and escape routes are easily located.

Electric passage boxes are excellent allies in accident prevention
